Killzone 2 maps

Finally brought my ps3 back online, I had unplugged it and realized there was no real reason to even keep it on the network.  That’s one thing I hate about the PS3, unless you are playing online multiplayer games there really isnt any reason to bring it online.  Killzone 2 is a reason though, i cracked that shit open again today and remembered they had a new map pack bundle, 6 maps for 10 quid.  Pretty good deal and I have to say some of the maps are pretty slick.  Pretty shitty that even though the map packs are 145MB each it still took me an hour to download them, PS3 network is so shit.

I think the game update reset my killzone controls becuase I had to reset them again and that took about an hour of playing but now they are back to normal.  It’s amazing to me that a game like this can take that long to get the controls right.  After not playing forever and hitting some TF2 and other games it really shows how difficult the PS3 analog stick is.  Same problem on tiger woods.

Solitaire

Sometimes solitaire is entertaining.  Its sort of remarkable that you can play it on an old ipod mini with just a wheel and one button.

This ipod is so scratched and dented its a miracle that it even works.

The moooooon

Every once in a while I get dazzled again by the intardweb.  Usually its with some flashy website and this is definitely no exception to that rule.  Every once in a while there is that site that makes me say wow, the internet really has came a long way from typing those web weaver html pages and messing up my first html presentation to a few dozen people.  Web weaver is so old I can’t even find a link to it on teh googles.  In fact the wikipedia page for web weaver leaves me breathless.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_Weaver

Anyway the site I am talking about is we choose the moon: http://www.wechoosethemoon.org/

Farewall Bird of Thunder

I tried to switch to thunderbird, again for my personal email and I’ve once again had it.  It seems like no one must be testing this product out becuase it continues to be pretty bad.  Even outlook express is better then this.

For a while there I completely stopped checking any personal email.  I’m not sure why, maybe lack of time, lack of motivation or the fact that I really just don’t get any good personal emails to my many of addresses.  Maybe I just got tired of webmail.  After years of using outlook express I figured there has to be something out there better than this, and after firefoxes success I thought thunderbird was it.  Originally when I tested thunderbird a few years back my main complaint was not being able to split mail accounts into different inboxes, they’ve since fixed that.

Now it just seems like there are so many unnnoticed problems with it.  I have a mail server that has a ssl cert that has expired.  Every time I check my email I have to click ok on 2 server certificate errors .  Thunderbird where is my option to always allow this?

Being in IT when something is up with spam I tend to look at the headers of email.  Why is there no option to view headers on one single email under properties or somewhere else?  Changing the view settings for all messages when I only need to see the headers on one email gets a bit tedious.  Also, why when I am viewing the headers is there no scroll bar when the message extends beyond the pain.  It’s just unreasonable.  Now that I can see the headers why is it that I can only copy 1 line of it at a time and its in this horrible format?  Really dissapointing.

And finally the seal on the deal is why the hell do you use those stupid color bar formats for replying and why do you put the cursor at the bottom of my message when I hit reply.  Its 2009, not 1997.  Haven’t you ever heard of threads?

On that note it’s uninstall time

Team Fortress 2

There are some games I always come back to.  final fantasy tactics(10+ years), counterstrike(5+ years), and I feel like team fortress 2 is going to add to that list.  Half life was great but ive played it, and as for the go back games im not talking about the ones ill play once or twice every few years im talking about playing from start to finish or long countless hours.  Left 4 dead was great but I dont have the passion to open it up any longer, i think its the limited amount of levels.  TF2 just keeps expanding, its a game that just keeps on giving.  Last week I got my first unlockable item in the game, the sniper bow and i feel like some serious TF2 time is coming up.

My Cuppa Coffee

Many thanks to Darren for the new cup.

Windows 7 SMB

Got windows 7 installed and found an interesting setting.  NTML version 2 is set by default and doesnt negotiate with v1 servers.  Connecting to a mac os share would state access denied regardless of the credentials.  The trick is to enable v1 if v2 doesn’t negotiate.

Open up the local security policy by running secpol.msc

Navigate to Local Policies -> Security Policies

Change Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level to: Send LM & NTLM - Use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated.

Close security policy and reconnect to the share.  If it still doesnt work change the encryption level to not require 128 bit encryption.

Open Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) clients and uncheck the require 128 bit.

Open Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) servers and uncheck the require 128 bit.

Reconnect to the share and it should connect correctly.

Up In Smoke

This is a pretty cool site that illustrates the different categories of smoking per state, % of population that smokes, price of cigarettes, and state bans.
